Secondary Narrative Bundle for ages 11 to 16Sale!Description A bundle of two resources aimed at pupils in KS3/4 (9-14 years ) who require additional support to develop well structured oral and written narrative accounts. Pupils aged 9 years and above are increasingly required to record their narratives in written form. The greater emphasis on the use of written narrative to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and general ability within a subject has the potential to doubly disadvantage any young person who has difficulties with understanding and using narrative. An effective method to support students’ written narrative is to provide writing frames or templates to scaffold both their fiction and non-fiction writing along with key word prompts. For more information see below. Secondary Talk Narrative, KS3-4 This Secondary Talk Narrative resource pack was developed by Bec Shanks in collaboration with ICAN (now Speech and Language UK) and produced with the support of Helen Rippon and Black Sheep Press. When originally written, this pack formed part of the resources for ICAN Secondary Talk, but it can also be used independently of this programme. The pack provides information about how oral narrative underpins written language and why using narrative frameworks can be helpful for KS3-4 pupils who require more support to become successful in written tasks. Exploring written narratives in Secondary School education, the Secondary Talk Narrative pack is designed to help school staff achieve the following outcomes: To be aware of the need to provide a range of frameworks that scaffold written tasks across the secondary curriculum. To be aware of the different types of narrative styles required across the secondary curriculum. To have a range of narrative templates that can be further adapted according to individual needs. For more information see below. Creating Superhero Stories - Narrative KS3 Creating Superhero Stories is a narrative KS3 resource suitable for use by speech and language professionals, teachers and teaching assistants. Pupils aged 9 years and above are increasingly required to record their narratives in written form. The greater emphasis on the use of written narrative to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and general ability within a subject has the potential to doubly disadvantage any young person who has difficulties with understanding and using narrative. An effective method to support students’ written narrative is to provide writing frames or templates to scaffold both their fiction and non-fiction writing. These writing frames typically consist of outlines that provide keyword prompts. However, by the time a young person reaches secondary education, such writing frames are rarely used, if at all, as pupils are expected to have reached a certain level of competence in maintaining a written narrative. "Creating Superhero Stories" is a targeted intervention for pupils between the ages of 9 years and 14 years, who may need additional support to develop well-structured oral and written narrative accounts, helping them develop their Narrative writing through superhero stories.
